One of the most popular trails on Vitosha - from Boyana to the Boyana waterfall

Navigation

The Boyana Waterfall is located on the Boyana River, about 4 km southwest of the Boyana district, at 1260 m above sea level, in the area of the Vitosha andesite rock ridge. The waterfall has a drop of 40 meters. With a larger flow, it can be easily observed from the center of Sofia. It stands out like a silver thread in the middle of the Vitoska slope.
The starting point for the Boyana Waterfall is the Boyana district. Take the road from the center, past the Boyana Inn, go up Belite Brezi Street, turn right into Pop Evstati Vitoshki Street, pass the Boyana Hydroelectric Power Plant and reach the forest at the top of the neighborhood. At the beginning of the path you will see the signposts.
The waterfall can be reached by two paths. Both are signposted. One leads along the river, it is steep and in many places there are difficult passages to overcome. The climb takes about 50 minutes.
The other path is gentler and goes gradually uphill, offering wonderful panoramic views in some places. It is marked with green paint, and the markings were renewed in 2009. The ascent to the waterfall on this trail takes about 1.5 hours. It passes through the only natural occurrence of yew trees on Vitosha.
