The favourite trail on Vitosha of Boyan Petrov

Navigation

"The Boyan Petrov's trail" is the name of the path from the Knyazhevo district of Sofia to the Kopitoto area in Vitosha, on which the late Bulgarian alpinist prepared physically for his expeditions. It is mostly steep and physically demanding, which favors training before difficult ascents. It runs under the route of the old Knyazheski lift. As far as I remember from an interview with Boyan Petrov, his goal was to climb this route from Knyazhevo to Kopitoto in 40 minutes with a full 10-liter hose in his backpack and descend in 10 minutes. I can imagine such a fast climb if you are in top shape, but going down this steep, slippery slope for 10 minutes seems like an ordeal.

The most important thing for the route from Kniazhevo to Kopitoto
The starting point is the turning point of streetcar line 5 in Kniazhevo district, which can also be reached by bus No. 59.
There are no markings along the entire crossing. Only at the beginning we move along the yellow markings of the route from Kniazhevo to the Golden Bridges.
Drinking water is available only at the standpipe at the beginning of the route.
The terrain is earthy almost all the time, and in the last ten minutes it becomes stonier.
Open/Shady - We move almost to the end exclusively through forest.
There are no dangerous sections, the only thing to watch out for is slipping, especially when you are on this trail.
