The hike to Peak Manastirishte, the highest point in Plana Mountain at 1338 meters, starts from the center of the village of Plana. This is a relatively easy to moderate trail, making it a great option for those looking for a peaceful nature walk with rewarding views.
The route begins on a wide dirt road, gradually ascending through a forest of pine and beech trees. As the trail climbs higher, the dense woods give way to open meadows with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, including Vitosha, Rila, and Stara Planina. The terrain remains gentle, with a steady but manageable elevation gain of around 400 meters.
Approaching the peak, the trail becomes more exposed, offering unobstructed views in all directions. At the summit, a small plateau with a monument marks the highest point of Plana Mountain. From here, the scenery stretches far across the surrounding valleys, making it an ideal spot to rest and take in the beauty of the landscape.
The hike to Manastirishte is around six kilometers one way and typically takes about two and a half to three hours to reach the top. The return follows the same route, making for a total distance of approximately 12 kilometers. The combination of forest paths, open fields, and gentle slopes makes this a pleasant and accessible hike, suitable for a wide range of hikers looking to explore the quiet charm of Plana Mountain.
