If you're searching for a destination that combines rich history, stunning coastal views, and a relaxed Mediterranean vibe - all just a short and affordable flight away - Malta should be at the top of your list. My recent journey to this beautiful island left me truly impressed, and I’m excited to share the highlights of my experience.
One of the things that pleasantly surprised me was how easy and quick it was to get to Malta from my country. Thanks to low-cost airlines like Ryanair, you can book a direct flight and land on this sun-soaked island in just a few hours. The convenience and affordability make Malta a perfect weekend getaway or even a longer escape without breaking the bank.
Malta’s coastline is one of its most captivating features. The color of the sea here is something that no photo can fully capture—it’s a spectrum of deep cobalt, turquoise, and sapphire that shifts with the light. Whether you're standing on the cliffs, walking by the promenade, or taking a boat ride, the view of the Mediterranean is simply breathtaking.
Valletta, the capital of Malta and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is like a living museum. Narrow streets filled with golden sandstone buildings, colorful balconies, and ornate churches make it a dream for history lovers and photographers alike. Walking through Valletta feels like stepping back in time, yet the city is alive with cozy cafes, stylish restaurants, and boutique shops. Don’t miss the Upper Barrakka Gardens for one of the best panoramic views of the Grand Harbour.
On the other hand, Sliema offers a completely different vibe. Just across the water from Valletta, this town is buzzing with modern life. Sleek buildings, trendy bars, shopping malls, and seaside promenades make Sliema a favorite for both locals and tourists. I loved how easy it was to walk around, enjoy a drink by the sea, or catch the sunset while feeling the relaxed Maltese rhythm.
One of my favorite parts of the trip was the short boat ride between Sliema and Valletta. For just a few euros, you can hop on a ferry that runs frequently and enjoy a scenic 10-minute ride across the water. It’s not just transportation - it’s an experience in itself, with incredible views of the historic skyline and the sea all around you.
Another thing that stood out to me was the people. The Maltese are incredibly friendly, easygoing, and always ready to help or chat. English is widely spoken, which makes communication smooth and stress-free. There’s a strong sense of pride in their culture, and they love to share it with visitors. Whether you’re asking for directions or looking for local food recommendations, you’ll likely be met with a smile.
There’s something magical about Malta. Maybe it's the light, the sea, or the timeless architecture. Maybe it's the ease of getting around, the open smiles of the people, or the fresh seafood dinners by the shore. Whatever it is, I left with the feeling that I’ll be back.
Whether you're a solo traveler, a couple, or a family looking for your next adventure, Malta offers something special that few destinations can match. Don’t wait—book that flight and go discover it for yourself.
